My Dad’s cousin Freddie had passed away. He lived out in the country and had a huge garden of hollyhocks. When Freddie passed, I knew the hollyhocks would be cut down, so I got my niece who was six years old at the time, to come with me to take some photos of those hollyhocks. I took photos of her against the hollyhocks and the green fence… kind of late in the day. When I had almost finished the painting, my niece said, “put wings on me”. Next day a large iridescent green dragonfly was lying on the railing of the porch… like someone had placed it there for me.
