This painting started out as a winter scene. But I kept seeing in my mind’s eye, the ‘mother and child’ image, so I painted the image of the mother and child over the winter image and gave it an ethereal look to imply the spirit of the mother and child. Incidentally, when I decided to name the painting, the name Aurora Borealis came to mind. When I looked up the meaning to the words, Aurora was the Roman goddess of the dawn, and borealis is a derivative of the Greek word for the God North Wind.
